ABOUT

Emmanuel comes from Ndonyo Wasin. He was born in 1991 and the last born of a family of 8 children. He comes from a traditional nomadic pastoralist family that moves every few months in search of water and pasture for their cattle and goats. As with all other families in the area their goats and cattle have been decimated by the prolonged drought of 2005/2006.

At the time he started school Ndonyo Wasin school was very run down and only had 30 students so his parents decided to send him to Gronich school which is about 20 kilometers from where they lived. At school Emmanuel was an excellent student, hard working and diligent, and he was the school time keeper (bell ringer) among other responsibilities. He was also on the soccer team.

Emmanuel graduated with a score of 315 marks out of the possible 500 marks. These marks are very good and he was admitted at Marsabit Boys Secondary School. However, given the recent drought there was simply no way his parents could have enough cows to sell to send him to secondary school and Emmanuel was not expecting to be able to continue his education. Thomas who runs our computer room at Sereolipi met Emmanuel while he was visiting Ndonyo Wasin and he recommended him for the program.

Emmanuel’s goal is to become a nurse and to work at the clinic in Ndonyo Wasin and we are confident he can maintain a good grade that would allow him to go to nursing school after he has finished secondary school.
