Vivian is 15 years old. Her father died when she was 3 years old and she lives with her aging mother and one brother who looks after the family goats. She has 4 sisters all of whom are married and have left home. Vivian is the only person in her family to go to school. She decided to go to school when she was just 6 years old. She had a friend in the next manyatta that was at school and he had paper and pencil at home. He showed her what he was learning and she decided she also wanted to know how to write and speak English. Her mother has been very supportive of her decision.
Vivian achieved marks of 318 on her KCPE exams and has always been a top performing student in the school. She was also on the soccer team at school. She is a very determined person who wants to get the most out life.
