ABOUT

Gladys graduated from Sereolipi Primary School in 2008. She achieved 307 marks in her KCPE exams and was the best girl student in the whole of Samburu East District.
Gladys’ parents are Kikuyu but she has lived in Samburu all her life, first in Merile then in Sereolipi. Her father is a local stone mason and has helped in the building of the dormitories, computer room and library in Sereolipi school. Her mother runs a small kiosk selling basic items and is a very active member of the school committee. Both her parents have been very supportive of Gladys’ education.
In our scholarship program we have only 4 girls. So many girls drop out for marriage and looking after goats and many others perform very poorly because they are given so many chores like fetching water and firewood after school that they don’t do enough homework. We are slowly correcting this in the lower classes but it make Gladys particularly special.
Glady’s has got a place in an excellent school Limuru Girl’s High School, an outstanding national school. She is very hard working and very committed to her studies and we believe she will do really well in secondary school. Her parents make just enough money to survive on. They would never be able to afford the school fees for 4 years of secondary school.
